Volunteer With The Arc

Volunteer with The Arc!

We have a variety of opportunities for folks to volunteer with The Arc. Please note that volunteers must be at least 16 years old, and depending on the activity, they may need to pass a criminal background check and be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

  1.  Helping Parent Peer Mentor - You will attend a day-long training that prepares you to serve as an informal peer mentor to other parents with similar kids. You do not need to be a biological parent to participate. We have foster parents, kinship caregivers, grandparents, and siblings volunteer.
  2.  IEP Parent Partner Peer Mentor - You will attend a multi-day training series that prepares you to serve as an informal peer mentor for families navigating the special education system. You do not need to be a biological parent to participate. We have foster parents, kinship caregivers, grandparents, siblings, and education professionals volunteer.
  3.  Childcare Support - On occasion, The Arc hosts community events during which parents engage in educational training while their children with and without disabilities are supervised in another room. Volunteers hang out with the kids and play games, eat snacks, etc. while overseeing the general wellbeing of the children. Childcare support volunteers report to The Arc staff or identified lead Child Care Volunteer.
  4.  Board Committee Membership – For folks who do not have time to commit to The Arc’s Board of Directors, but would still like to support The Arc, community members can join the following Board Committees: Finance Committee, Development Committee, and Capital Campaign Committee.
  5.  Photographer – Throughout the year, we need someone who can take high-quality, high-resolution photos at our community events.
  6.  Video Production Support – Throughout the year we have need to create and edit short videos. Volunteers with video production hardware and/or software would help ensure we create quality videos.
  7.  Basic Landscaping, Lawn Care, Gardening - Our Supported Living program participants live in their own homes throughout the community. Many do not have the skills or tools needed to keep up their lawns/landscaping. Volunteers who can help mow lawns and/or do simple landscaping or gardening are needed. We can work with you to identify location and frequency.
  8.  Haircuts/ Hair Styling – Our Supported Living program participants often cannot afford a professional haircut. Volunteers skilled in cutting and styling hair for folks of any gender are greatly appreciated. We can work with you to identify location, frequency, etc.
  9.  Special Skills/Activities – We provide a lot of different community activities/events where we need people with unique skills such as magic performers, leading science experiments, leading arts and crafts, music performers, laughter yoga facilitators, massage therapists, etc. The Arc engages with volunteers for these activities at our community events and/or for our staff moral activities. If you think you have a skill or fun activity to share, please let us know!
  10.  Event Support – On occasion The Arc hosts events that need volunteer support for things like on-site set up, registration, clean up, etc. Previous events included Wings for Autism, Legislative Awards Picnic, 5K for Inclusion, Gala Fundraiser, and more. We will add your name to our list of potential event support volunteers and notify you when an event is coming to determine your availability.
