The Arc Ambassador Latino Workshops are for people with developmental disabilities and their caring community.
Become a leader in the Latino community advocating for people with developmental disabilities and their caregivers! This program prepares family caregivers, professionals, and individuals with disabilities to access services, advocate for community needs, and make positive changes in the disability movement.
There are three topics to choose from; Special Education (registration closed), Public Benefits, and Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) Services. Choose 1 or all 3 topics to attend. Each topic is a workshop containing 3 classes. When registering, we ask you commit to attend all three classes within that topic.
Registration is required!
Eligible applicants are individuals with developmental disabilities, their family members and community members, basic English skills are required, Spanish language support will be provided.
All classes are scheduled on Saturdays from 9am - 12pm and held at 2100 Building, Treehouse, 2100 24th Ave S., Seattle, WA 98144
Special Education Series: Application Due Date is July 26th, 2014
August 9th - Introduction to special education: History and laws
September 6th - The special education process: Referral, evaluation, IEPs
September 27th - Being an effective parent advocate
Public Benefits Series: Application Due Date is October 11th, 2014
October 25th - Overview of public benefits and eligibility
November 22nd - Social security benefits including SSI
December 13th - Medical benefits including Medicaid
Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) Services: Application Due Date is December 22nd, 2014
January 10th - What is DDA, eligibility, county vs. state services
February 7th - DDA services including IFS, waivers, employment, etc.
March 7th - Medicaid Personal Care (MPC)
$30 for one 3-part workshops series (total of 3 classes)
$50 for two 3 part workshop series (total of 6 classes)
$60 for three 3-part workshop series (total of 9 classes)
*Please bring cash or check to first workshop
Scholarships are available! All applicants are encouraged to apply for a scholarship! Scholarships will cover application fees.
