VI. Out of Home Respite Care Options
Below are agencies that can supply lists of center-based care options for respite purposes (from adult day health programs to child care) as well as programs that actually provide center based care.
Aging and Disability Services Respite

Service Description: Provides relief to unpaid caregivers, age 18 and older, who provide at least 12 hours per day of care and/or supervision to frail elderly or disabled adults 18 years and older. If participants receive COPES or
Medicaid Personal Care they are not eligible.
Caregivers may be eligible for respite through their medical coupons and need to check with their DSHS care manager.
In-home service or adult day care, plus short-term nursing home stays for annual vacations are available. Emergency services are available for anyone who qualifies.
Eligibility: Caregivers who are 18 or older and provide at least 12 hours unpaid care per day.

Service Description: Information and assistance identifying out-of-home respite resources in King County.
Eligibility: Caregivers of children and adults with developmental disabilities.

Community Information Line and Crisis Clinic

Fee: No cost, or sliding fee scale based on income and need criteria.
Childhaven Crisis Nursery

Service Description: Provides 24-hour crisis line, information, referral, and case management services for parents facing crisis situations.
Provides families with emergency childcare situations. Assists families with emergency child care for up to 72 hours in licensed homes. Will help find interpreters for non-English speakers. Children can be brought from anywhere to foster homes in King County but parents must have own transportation to the foster home.
Eligibility: Birth to 6 years, siblings up to age 7 taken on a case-by-case basis.

Service Description: Camp runs the first three Saturdays of the month with two adult program managers and 4 to 6 teens, trained in Camp Fire’s Special Sitter Training to care for children with disabilities.
Eligibility: Children with disabilities ages 2 to 12, and siblings without disabilities ages 2 to 10.

Service Description: Listings of licensed generic childcare centers; consultation to centers including children with disabilities.
Eligibility: Children birth to 12 years.
DSHS/Children’s Administration

Service Description: The Children’s Administration provides in-home and out-of-home respite care services for licensed foster parents caring for children placed by the
Division of Children and Family Services
(DCFS). Unlicensed relatives caring for children placed by DCFS should contact the assigned social worker for access and information about respite care services.
DDD Family Support Program

Service Description: The Family Support Program is frozen
indefinitely; until the legislature provides more funding.
Eligibility: Family Support is only available to clients who are DDD eligible and who live with their families.
Fee: None.
DDD Take a Break-Fircrest Planned Respite Program
Phone: DDD Case/Resource Manager or DDD at (206) 568-5700 for referral.
Service Description: Respite provided at Fircrest.
Eligibility: Adults 18 years and older and in the DDD system.
Residential Summer Camps
Service Description: Parents can request summer camp scholarships for Camp Coleman or Camp Orkila by contacting Emma Fohn, Camp Scholarship Coordinator with the YMCA at (206) 382-5003. Requests should be made in February for the summer. Students entering grades 1st – 12th in the fall are eligible for Camp Coleman. Students entering grades 3rd – 12th in the fall are eligible for Camp Orkila.
Camperships are available for Camp Sealth through the Campfire program. Contact Kathy Wiren, coordinator for Camperships at Campfire at (206) 461-8550, extension 247. Requests should be made in January or February. Financial assistance eligibility is based on the guidelines used for the schools’ “Free & Reduced Lunch Program.”
Parents may have access to scholarships for various residential summer camps if their children are enrolled in various children’s programs during the year, e.g. Easter Seals, Boys & Girls Clubs. Parents should inquire in January/ February at the program their child (children) attend.

Service Description: Provides information, referral, and advocacy for older persons and for those who care for them. Provides screening and intake for Aging and Disability Services Respite Program. Maintains a resource directory of community resources including Adult Day Health Programs that can be mailed or located on the web.
Northwest's Child

Service Description: A non-profit agency that serves day-to-day needs of children & young adults (5 yrs to 21+ yrs) with moderate to severe disabilities. We work around the school day, run year round and work directly off of existing IEP goals created by each client's school. We also advocate for parents, assist in resource searching and attend IEP meetings and DSHS meetings. We visit schools and work closely with teachers & parents in order to focus on the most important elements of each student's goals. Those students who graduate and ask to stay on with us after age 21 are assisted in day programming such as job training, independent living skills and other social/community goals to fill out their day. Our program for our adults (out of school) is "Aaron's Place".
Eligibility: We are contracted with DDD, CSO, Dept. of Health and City of Seattle.
Fees: On a sliding scale and/or adjusted rate based on the funding available to each family.
Working Connections Child Care (WCCC)

Service Description: Helps families who are income-eligible pay for child care expenses while the parents in the family are working, looking for work, or working and going to school. Note that WCCC is designed to support working caregivers, not for respite care per se.
Eligibility: Subsidizes care for children 0 to 12 years of age and up to 18 years if the child has special care needs.
Fee: All families must pay for a portion of the childcare cost called a co-payment. The minimum co-payment is $15 per month.

Service Description: A recreational support group for siblings of children who have special health, developmental, and/or learning needs. The Sibshop model mixes information and discussion activities with new games (designed to be unique, off-beat, and appealing to a wide ability range), and special guests. Located at Sound Café, in Children's Hospital and Regional Medical Center.
Eligibility: Groups are for children 6 to 13 years old.
Fee: Cost per Sibshop is $10 (includes snack).
