Service Description: Provides information and advocacy for individuals with developmental disabilities. Can provide caregivers of individuals with developmental disabilities of all ages with information about respite resources in the community. Can help connect to Aging and Disability Services respite for adults over 18 caring for someone over 18 who is disabled or over 60.

Service Description: One-time assistance for caregivers with an urgent need for respite due to caregiver illness or disability, or other family emergencies. Option to receive short-term services in the home, day care, or residential settings. Goal is to provide immediate assistance, while families search out long-term respite or ongoing care. Caregivers may also receive care consultation services from a social worker or geriatric mental health specialist. Services may include problem solving, help with decision-making and planning for the future, family meetings, advocacy, and access to resources. Assistance is available by telephone, in-home, or in the office. Caregivers have the option to schedule appointments during evening or weekend hours.
Fee: No cost, or sliding fee scale based on income and need criteria.

Service Description: Provides 24-hour crisis line, information, referral, and case management services for parents facing crisis situations. They can help find interpreters and serve children 6 weeks to 6 years old, siblings up to age 7. Children can be referred from any county to foster homes in King County.
Asian Counseling and Referral service

Service Description: Provides information and assistance for Asian and Pacific Island elderly who speak Asian, Pacific, and
Indo-Chinese dialects. Offers English as a Second Language (ESL) classes days and evenings. There is no waiting list. To qualify for ESL, must be on public assistance or low income.

Service Description: Provides information, family counseling, and supportive services for the Chinese population. Provides screening and makes respite care arrangements. Encourages participants to use Adult Day Health for their respite needs.

Service Description: A community long-term care system designed to bring together resources to assist persons of all ages and their families where disability, chronic illness, or aging are a concern.
SEA-MAR – Latino Senior Information and Assistance

Service Description: Provides information and assistance, and case management services to elderly who are 55 and older in greater Seattle and King County. Also provides case management services to adults with disabilities who are 18 years old and over.

Service Description: One-to-one counseling for eastside family caregivers of older adults, provided by social workers or nurses, in-home or in-office. Distributes Caresharing Newsletter (free for family caregivers),
Caresharing Guide to respite care services, and in-home services guide for eastside seniors. Provides referral to community services and coordination of care with family physician.
Eligibility: Caregiver services for residents of East King County only.

Service Description: Provides information, referral, and advocacy to secure community services including in-home care. Maintains a resource directory of home care agencies that can be mailed or found on the web. Provides information, referral, and advocacy for older persons and those who care for them. Connects caregivers to respite programs and does screening and intake for Aging and Disability Services Respite. The Caregiver Outreach and Support Program provides services by phone or in-person or can meet with caregivers in their homes to identify needs and arrange for services. Limited financial support is available.
Eligibility: Anyone 18 or older caring for someone 60 or older. Also provides information for relatives and grandparents over 60 raising children under 19 years of age.
Aging and Disability Services Respite Senior Information and Assistance

Service Description: Provides relief to unpaid caregivers, age 18 and older, who provide at least 12 hours per day of care and/or supervision to frail elderly or adults with disabilities who are 18 years and older. If participants receive COPES or Medicaid Personal Care they are not eligible.
Caregivers may be eligible for respite through their medical coupons and need to check with their DSHS case manager.
In-home service or adult day care, plus short-term nursing home stays for annual vacations are available. Emergency services are available for anyone who qualifies.
Eligibility: Caregivers who age 18 or older and provide at least 12 hours unpaid care per day.
Community Alternatives Program (CAP)

Service Description: Through DDD, the Communities Alternatives Program or CAP (which is also called the CAP waiver program) provides Medicaid Personal Care (MPC) up to 96 hours per month based upon the care needs of the individual. MPC must be provided in the individual’s or a relative’s home. Individuals who are on the CAP waiver program may also receive medical coupons that provide coverage through Medicaid for physical and occupational therapy and other medical expenses. Services depend on available funding.
Currently, the CAP waiver program is frozen indefinitely.
Eligibility: Care recipient can be of any age but must be a client of DDD, have a disability according to criteria established in the Social Security Act, have a gross income that does not exceed 300 percent of the maximum SSI benefit amount ($1,635.00 per month), and available resources that do not exceed $2,000.00. (In the case of a child, the parents’ income and resources are not considered when determining the child’s eligibility for the CAP waiver program.) Recipient must need the level of care provided in an Intermediate Care Facility for the Mentally Retarded (ICF/MR), have a Plan of Care which describes how their assessed needs will be met in the community, and agree to accept home and community-based services as an alternative to institutional services.

DDD Family Support Program

Service Description: The Family Support Program is frozen
indefinitely, until the legislature provides more funding. Currently, there is a waitlist for services.
Eligibility: Family Support is only available to clients who are DDD eligible and
who live with their families.

Working Connections Child Care (WCCC)

Service Description: Helps families who are income-eligible pay for child care expenses while the parents/guardians in the family are working, looking for work, or working and going to school. Note that WCCC is designed to support working caregivers, not for respite care per se.
Eligibility: Subsidizes are available to eligible children 0-12 years of age and up to 18 years of age if the child has special care needs. An enhanced rate may be available to a childcare provider if a child, 0-18 years of age, has special needs. Eligibility for the enhanced rate is established through a process involving both the parent and child care provider.
Fee: All families must pay for a portion of the childcare cost called a co-payment. The minimum co-payment is $ per month.
