The Special Santa program was launched five years ago to provide children with special needs and their families a fun experience visiting Santa in a safe and compassionate environment. Last year, the event attracted more than 100 families from throughout the region. The event serves children with a variety of special needs including: Autism, Down Syndrome, Genetic disorders, Sensory Processing Disorder and physical disabilities. Many of these children have issues that would make visiting Santa in a noisy mall or in any other setting impossible.
Upon entering the event, children will find a specially created holiday environment that allows them to participate at their own pace and comfort level. In addition to a personal visit with Santa, children will find sensory tables filled with powder snow, craft tables, and lots of scrumptious holiday treats, including options for those on GFCF diet. A Quiet Room will be available to children who need a quiet spot to wait their turn with Santa.
