The Arc of King County, serving the most populous region of the state, is a non-profit organization providing advocacy and services to persons with developmental disabilities and their families. The Arc-King County has a highly trained and dedicated professional staff that has helped change public attitudes and set standards for quality programs that treat clients with dignity and help them realize their full potential.

Current Openings:

We are seeking two full-time Community Outreach and Resource Specialists to join our friendly and professional staff.  These positions report to the Outreach Manager as part of the outreach team and work closely with the Parent-to-Parent (family support) and Survival Services (homelessness prevention) Coordinators respectively.  The outreach team is charged with connecting families and adults with disabilities to services, each other, and to develop effective advocacy skills. 

The Arc of King County is the oldest local nonprofit organization serving children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families.  We are a local chapter of The Arc of the United States, The Arc of Washington, and a partner agency of the United Way of King County.

The successful candidate for each position will participate on our person centered planning  (PCP) team with the ability to conduct plans with youth, families, and/or young adults and also assist with PCP training workshops.  One position will have specific assignments supporting our Parent-to-Parent (P2P) program and serve as an Arc liaison with our partners in autism advocacy and services.  One position will have specific assignment supporting our Homelessness Survival services and serve as an Arc liaison with our partners in homelessness advocacy and services.

 

       EXAMPLE OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Parent-To-Parent

  • Support The Arc’s core “Parent to Parent” work: develop support networks for parents of children or other family members with a developmental disability by moderating email groups, conduct Helping Parent training, match parents and provide problem solving and emotional support
     

  • Participate on the Person Centered Planning team assisting with learning groups, training workshops, and completing plans
     

  • Manage relationships and coordinate activities with The Arc’s community partners related to autism
     

  • Complete information, referral and outreach functions as part of the outreach team
     

  • Organize documentation and complete necessary reporting
     

  • Other duties as assigned
     

EXAMPLE OF RESPONSIBILITIES: Homelessness Survival Services

  • Support The Arc’s core “Homelessness and Survival Services” work: provide time-limited support and advocacy for and with adults with developmental disabilities at risk of homelessness, participate in the Arc’s self-advocacy training, build collaboration, and other activities
     

  •  Participate on the Person Centered Planning team assisting with learning groups, training workshops, and completing plans
     

  • Manage relationships and coordinate activities with The Arc’s partners related to homelessness
     

  • Complete information, referral and outreach functions as part of the outreach team
     

  • Organize documentation and complete necessary reporting
     

  • Other duties as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education

§      High school diploma required; Bachelor level degree, or equivalent, in social services or related field preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years experience with families/individuals with disabilities.  Parents and/or family members encouraged to apply
     

  • Knowledge of diverse populations, languages, and other systems such as education, health, or homelessness preferred

Other Requirements

  • Valid Washington State Drivers license, able to drive, navigate, and work throughout King County in a timely manner
     

  • Pass an FBI background check
     

  •  Ability to pass 1st Aid, CPR, Blood Borne Pathogens/HIV AIDS training, Community Protection Training, Incident Reporting, and Cultural Competence Training
     

  • This is a full time position – required availability is 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday with occasional weekend and evening hours

Starting Pay: $13.50 / hour
