This website will direct you to adaptive equipment and alternative methods available for accessing computers. It lists computer access solution for people with different types of disabilities:  Blind & Visually Impaired, Cognitive Disabilities, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Electronic Aids to Daily Living, Learning Disabilities, etc.  Maintained by certified Assistive Technology Practitioner, who himself uses Assistive Technology since he fractured his neck in a swimming accident in 1972.  AbilityHub.com will respond by email to brief questions concerning Assistant Technology but also offers in-depth consulting and/or training.

The main purpose of the Web site is to help the special needs community find rides. Research and Training Center and Community Living

Info:  The Research and Training Center on Community Living (RTC) is part of the Institute on Community Integration, the University Affiliated Program in the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. The RTC focuses on community supports for persons with developmental disabilities and their families; providing research, evaluation, training, and technical assistance activities in several areas. The RTC sponsors several web sites and tries to provide the most popular and timely publications to its on-line audience.

Seattle Community Technology Directory

Info:  This directory contains information about more than 160 community programs in Seattle and surrounding areas. These programs provide training, access to information and opportunities to use technology tools. Beyond that, there are a wide range of program offerings, locations and communities served.  Community tech centers are based in housing projects, human service agencies, libraries, places of worship, schools, or community centers. They may serve families, youth, immigrants, single mothers, job seekers, or seniors. Some provide "open access" to the public, while others only serve their members, students, or housing project residents. The technology services range from Internet access, computer training, video production facilities, web sites and more.

Info: A site maintained by Special Educator and Technology Integration Specialist; it presents ideas for simple assistive technology and provides instructions for simple devices (for instance: make your own talking switch; directions for adapting a voice recording photo frame from Radio Shack). Also an article describing the general philosophical basis for using
augmentative communication and assistive technology with young children, who have disabilities. The site seems to be under permanent development (as the author adds new info), so please check for yourself for details.

Washington Assisistive Technology Alliance (WATA)

Info:  WATA is a consumer advocacy network that includes the University of Washington Center for Technology and Disability Studies (UWCTDS), and the AT Resource Center at Easter Seal Society in Spokane (EATRC).  WATA also receives guidance from a Consumer Majority Advisory Board.  WATA activities include information and referral; consultation and training related to sections of AT devices, services and funding; legal advice and advocacy;  policy development and legislative action; technical consultation and training; publications; development and maintenance of online resources.  Customers include people with disabilities, their families, caregivers, employers, teachers, health care and social service providers.
