Info: Nonprofit legal advocacy organization provides technical support and
co-counsel to selected lawsuits with private lawyers, legal services programs,
ACLU chapters and state protection and advocacy systems. Works with with
local, regional and national advocacy and consumer organizations to reform
public systems and promote consumer participation in the design and operation of
service programs. Publishes handbooks, manuals and reports explaining key legal
and policy issues in everyday terms. Web site lists current alerts and
legislative updates regarding mental health laws, and links to a bookstore with
on-line catalog (some in Spanish).

clients with disabilities. The Commission consists of 15 members appointed by
the ABA President; it meets twice yearly at its headquarters in Washington, D.C.
to map out future plans and to direct its current activities. Their
website has a very useful link 'Consumer's Guide to Legal Help on the Internet',
which contains information about free legal help, tips on hiring a lawyer, and
even about solving trouble with your lawyer.

chief concern is the availability and quality of legal and advocacy services for
parents of children with all disabilities. The prime objective is to better
integrate the unique strengths of parent, advocate and attorney to keep the
costs of legal assistance manageable, while improving their availability and
quality. While supporting interaction and dialogue with educators and their
attorneys, membership in COPAA
is not available to attorneys who represent, or persons currently employed by,
education agencies receiving Federal or state funds under IDEA. Other
organizations exist to serve those persons and entities.
