2008 TRAINING SPONSORED BY KING COUNTY
DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES DIVISION
Best Practices in Transition: This series is designed
for special education teachers, para-professionals, transition coordinators and
administrators of special education who work with students with developmental
disabilities. Topics on transition from school to work will be facilitated by
national and local experts. This series will also allow networking and an

Topics in Supported Employment: This series, sponsored by King, Snohomish
and Pierce Counties, contains information and techniques used to develop
employment and support individuals with developmental disabilities in community
jobs. The target audience is employment providers, special educators and para-professionals
in transition to employment programs. Family members, advocates and individuals
who want to learn more about supported employment are also welcome. For more

Inclusion and Community Connections: The target audience includes
families and individuals with disabilities, advocates as well as educators and
professionals who support individuals with developmental disabilities in home,
work or school settings. These seminars will focus on community inclusion and
Pathways to Employment for individuals with significant disabilities. For more

Social Security Trainings: This is a series that is specifically targeted
to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. The topics
include an overview of the Social Security system, work incentives and
information to assist individuals with disabilities to manage their benefits
while working. Individuals with disabilities, providers, advocates and others
interested in Social Security and employment issues are welcome. For more

School to Work Orientations: These are information sessions for families
and individuals with developmental disabilities who are interested in the King
County School to Work Program, which is for students with developmental
disabilities (ages 20-21 in the last year of school) who want to graduate with a

Transition Fairs: These are resource fairs for students with
developmental disabilities (ages 14-21), their families, educators and
employment providers. The Transition Fairs will allow students, family members
and educators to get to know and interview vocational providers. There will also
be booths for other community providers including state agencies, parks and
recreation, housing resources and more. Classes on transition and related topics
