NWC Training Announcement
Positive Behavior Support

About the training:
Positive Behavior Support (PBS) presents basic and critical information about the philosophy and practice of staff support for people with developmental disabilities. PBS is the only system of support sanctioned and allowed for use at NWC and by DDD state policy for funded agencies. CS staff are required to use PBS every day to understand consumer preference, to protect and improve their quality of life, to train and increase positive skills and to decrease problem behavior.

About the trainer:
Joe Hutchings has over a quarter-century of experience in supporting those with special needs. Joe has worked extensively in schools, sheltered workshops, supported employment and residential services. He is known for his sense of humor and his ability to relate to the problems and concerns of staff members who provide direct support.

Joe Hutchings is certified as a Training Specialist, and was formerly a contract instructor with the Crisis Prevention Institute. He is under contract with the Washington State Division of Developmental Disabilities and The Association for the Severely Handicapped (TASH), among others. Joe served on the task force assigned to write the Washington State Division of Developmental Disabilities policy on Physical and Manual Interventions. He has been a featured speaker and presenter at a number of conferences for groups including: Region X Rehabilitation Conference, The Oregon Rehabilitation Association, Community Residential Services Association, Washington Initiative for Supported Employment.
